Private by design. This page has no backend. Your image is converted by JavaScript running on your own device and is never sent anywhere.

How the conversion works

This tool draws your image onto an HTML canvas and exports it in the target format. The browser handles the actual encoding — JPEG and WebP use lossy compression by default, while PNG is always lossless.

Transparency

PNG and WebP support transparent pixels. JPEG does not. When you convert a transparent image (such as a PNG with a see-through background) to JPEG, the tool fills transparent areas with white. You will see a notice if the source image has transparency and you pick JPEG.

Quality setting

The quality slider appears for JPEG and WebP targets, since both support lossy compression. At 90% the result is usually indistinguishable from the original. Lower values produce noticeably smaller files but may show compression artefacts, especially in areas with smooth colour gradients.

Source format detection

The tool detects the source format from the file itself (the magic bytes at the start), not from the file extension. This means a file named photo.png that is actually a JPEG will be handled correctly.

How to use the Image Format Converter

  1. Add the image you want to convert.
  2. Choose the output format — PNG, JPEG or WebP.
  3. Preview and download the converted file.
