Private by design. This page has no backend. Your image and captions are processed by JavaScript running on your own device and are never sent anywhere.

How the meme is created

This tool draws your image onto an HTML canvas, then adds white text with a dark outline and drop shadow at the top and bottom of the canvas. The result is exported as a PNG file that you can download.

Caption styling

Captions use a bold sans-serif font in all caps, with a dark outline and a subtle drop shadow for legibility on any background. The font size slider lets you control how large the text appears. Captions that are too wide for the image are wrapped automatically.

Canvas size

The meme canvas defaults to 1200 pixels wide, scaled from the source image's aspect ratio. Very small images are scaled up to fill the canvas width; very large images are scaled down. This keeps the output at a consistent, shareable size.

Output format

The downloaded meme is always a PNG, which keeps the text sharp and avoids JPEG compression artefacts around the caption edges.

How to use the Meme Generator
