Random Team Picker

Shuffle a list of names into evenly sized random teams.

Names

0 names entered

Private by design. This page has no backend. Names are shuffled entirely in your browser and are never sent anywhere.

How it works

Enter a list of names (one per line), choose how many teams you want, and press Shuffle into teams. Names are distributed as evenly as possible: if you have 10 names and 3 teams, two teams get 4 and one gets 3.

Fairness

The shuffle uses a cryptographically random source where available (the same approach used by the Password Generator on this site), with a Math.random fallback. The Fisher-Yates algorithm ensures every ordering is equally likely.

Persistence

Your name list and team count are saved in this browser so they survive a page reload. Press Clear to remove them.

How to use the Random Team Picker

  1. Enter your list of names, one per line.
  2. Choose how many teams to make.
  3. Shuffle to split the names into evenly sized teams.

Frequently asked questions

Are the teams even?

Names are distributed as evenly as possible, so group sizes differ by at most one.

Is the shuffle fair?

Yes. The order is randomised using your browser's random generator, so the teams are unbiased.

Can I balance more than one list at once?

The picker shuffles one list of names into teams; run it again for a fresh draw.
