Countdown Timer

Count down to any moment, with a progress bar and an alert when it hits zero.

Timer

00:00:00

Private by design. This page has no backend. The timer runs entirely in your browser. An optional beep plays using the Web Audio API — no external files are needed.

How the timer works

Enter the hours, minutes and seconds, then press Start. The timer counts down and shows a progress bar. When it reaches zero, the display flashes and an optional beep sounds.

Pause and resume

The timer uses a timestamp-based approach rather than simply decrementing a counter each tick. This means the displayed time stays accurate even if the browser throttles the tab while you switch to another window. Pausing stores the remaining time; resuming starts a new countdown from that remainder.

Completion

When the countdown reaches zero, the page title changes to show the event, a beep plays through your speakers (if allowed), and the display prominently shows DONE. Press Reset to clear the state.

How to use the Countdown Timer

  1. Set the hours, minutes and seconds.
  2. Press start and watch the progress bar count down.
  3. Get an alert when the time is up.

Frequently asked questions

Will it make a sound at the end?

A completion alert is shown, and where the browser allows it a notification signals the end.

Can I pause the countdown?

Yes. Pause and resume the timer, or reset it to start again.

Does it keep counting if I switch tabs?

It tracks real elapsed time, so it stays accurate even when the tab is in the background.
